Welcome! 2017-11-10T17:37:41+00:00

I’m running for the Port Commission District 1 position because I want to bring a fresh, new perspective to the port. My vision is to create a consistent and open dialogue between the port and the people of Whatcom County, and to establish strong and lasting relationships between all the stakeholders of a rapidly growing region.

If you care about Bellingham and Whatcom County like I do, I encourage you to get involved in our campaign. Sign up to volunteer. Make a campaign contribution. Stay informed by joining our newsletter list. Stay connected on social media.

I hope to meet as many of you as possible during the campaign, to learn about your needs, and hear from you what I can do to help all of us create a vision for what growth looks like in the region for the foreseeable future and long term.

The Whatcom Commercial Fishermen’s Association proudly endorses Michael Shepard for Port of Bellingham Commissioner, District 1. Michael strongly supports commercial fishing and the living wage jobs our industry provides for Whatcom County families. With almost $95 million in annual commercial fishing wages, our jobs are an important part of the local economy. Michael will fight to protect them.

Michael’s willingness to examine the issues and listen closely to the public’s questions and concerns, sets him apart from other candidates running for Port of Bellingham Commissioner in District 1. If you haven’t had a chance to meet Michael, please take a few moments to speak with him before you cast your vote in the upcoming primary. He is honest, reliable, and willing to work the long hours needed for the position.

Michael Shepard is simply one of the sharpest political minds and enthusiastic community organizers I have ever met in Whatcom County. I love the way he believes that he can help Whatcom County to the best and the brightest of futures with positive feedback, intelligence and organization. Imagine that a teacher, father, and Ph.D should want to sit on our port!! God knows we need that! Thank you Michael for running!

Ryan M. Ferris, Democrat PCO 208

Michael Shepard will make a bright, committed, ethical, and innovative Port Commissioner from District 1. Please join in supporting Michael as he runs for this important office. Michael is the real deal for District 1.

Abe Jacobsen, Bellingham, WA

Michael Shepard represents a compelling new direction for the Port of Bellingham that refocuses its priorities away from making money for itself and toward being a public service that stewards responsible and sustainable approaches to economic development. It’s an honor to be able to offer my support.
